Winter Housing Barn Assistant
Job Description
A five-month winter contract for the months the herd is inside. Bedding, feeding and scraping across two Friesland barns, so cows come out of winter in the condition they went in.
What you will do
- Bed cubicles and scrape passageways twice a day so cows always lie down on a clean, dry surface
- Load and feed the mixed ration and push feed up through the day and evening
- Watch cubicle occupancy and feed-fence pressure and tell the herd manager when a group is too tight
- Keep ventilation curtains and inlets set for the weather — winter barn air matters as much as summer cooling
- Assist with hoof-trimming days and the winter vaccination round
What we are looking for
- Physically fit for a winter of bedding, scraping and feeding
- Basic tractor and telehandler competence, or willingness to be trained and certified by us
- Calm around housed cattle in a confined barn
- Available for the full November to March period, including a share of Christmas cover
- Non-EU applicants welcome — we sponsor the seasonal work permit and provide heated on-farm accommodation
Good to know
- Season: Winter housing — November to March
- Department: Herd Care
- Open to non-EU nationals — we sponsor the seasonal work permit
