Playground coach summer holidays - Playground activities Leuven

During the summer holidays, the youth service of the city of Leuven organizes a playground activity where more than 100 children and activity leaders have the time of their lives. Every child has their own points of interest. We are looking for several playground coaches per operation who have an eye for all children and who can also support the (head) animators in this.

Do you have a heart for the playground, the competencies to coach groups and the antennae to pay attention to every child? Then you are the coach we are looking for!

Your most important tasks

The playground coach pays attention to the well-being of all children and activity leaders. You have several tasks:

Coaching animators and main animators.

• You are active in the daily operation of the playground and coach the (head) animators.
• You provide support with concrete tips and tricks and strengthen their competencies and tasks.
• Your goal is to ensure that every child has fun by strengthening and assisting the animator team.
• You get to know the team and keep your finger on the pulse. What questions, challenges and concerns are there?
• You think about upcoming activities and ensure that they are accessible to all children.

Active involvement during operation

• During daily activities you are an observer and supporter. You pay extra attention to children with additional care needs (language stimulation, behavioral difficulties, etc.).
• You can also assist animators with more complex games. You have a critical, but supportive attitude here. Afterwards you provide feedback to the (main) animators.
• You also think about feasible actions to improve the playground, make it more accessible and accessible. You are the point of contact on these themes and regularly contact parents and/or supervisors.

Attention to inclusion and diversity on the playground

• You ensure that everyone feels welcome on the playground.
• You are the point of contact for language support, children with disabilities, behavioral difficulties, etc. This for children, parents and animators.
• This way you can explain to parents what a playground is or help them with questions about registrations or other playground matters.
• You also assist animators with questions about diversity themes.

Ensure good group dynamics

• You work as a group reinforcement and have an eye for the atmosphere in the animator team.
• You make yourself approachable to every animator and can ask critical questions to encourage them to self-reflect.

What skills do you have best?

• You are at least 20 years old
• You have experience in coaching others (possible in youth work)

A certificate as an instructor in youth work is a plus.

An education in a social/pedagogical direction is an added value.

• You can work independently and solve problems

You resolve conflict situations yourself and, if necessary, contact the person responsible for the youth service.

You are motivated and committed, flexible and willing to work weekends and evenings.

• You are a mediator

You can appeal to different communication styles

You are open to everyone's opinion.

• You have a feel for diversity and language.

No prior knowledge is required, just a willingness to immerse yourself in it.

• You have respect for everyone.
